Frequently Asked Questions

When should we contact you to book a newborn session?

Scheduling a session is highly recommended to contact me during your pregnancy.  The sooner the better is key, to avoid disappointment as I only book a limited number of sessions a month.

However, I sometimes have last-minute openings, so it’s always good to contact me to see. 

How Old Should Baby Be For A Newborn Session?

I consider newborn up to 8 weeks old.

I usually photograph my newborn sessions when the baby is between 8 days to 6 weeks old. But if the baby is a little older, don’t worry—we can still get beautiful images at any age. Also, if the baby was in a long NICU stay, San Diego Newborn Photographer Photography By L Rose can still get amazing Newborn baby pictures captured for you — by a true baby whisperer. :)

Where is our session held, and do you provide the props?

Newborn sessions are currently held in the comfort of your home. You will have access to my wide variety of newborn props and backdrops. My collection of props includes. Fabrics, faux furs, headbands, hats, bonnets, wraps, crates, baskets, buckets, wooden bowls, and tons of other goodies in a multitude of colors. All we need is baby! All props and fabrics are washed or steamed cleaned before each session. Once you are booked, I will send over a newborn session questionnaire. It will ask you your color preferences and lots of other questions that will help me with the inspiration and design for your little ones’ posed newborn photography session.

I’m currently servicing all of San Diego County with providing professional portrait studio setups in the comfort of your home.

I Pre-booked My Newborn Photo Shoot Already — What Now?

We generally set a tentative date based on your due date. Generally, newborn babies don’t arrive when predicted, but at least we will have a starting point, which is your due date.

Your due date will be penciled in, and the session will be finalized once your little one arrives. I ask parents to call or text 1 to 2 days after the baby is born so we can secure the actual date and time.  

Newborns are great between 2 weeks to 6 weeks old. I never turn anyone down if baby is older we just call those Baby Milestone sessions and just adjust posing if needed.

Do you offer in home sessions?

​Yes! I Bring the whole studio to the comfort of your home.

How do we prepare for the Newborn session?

I have a special Newborn Session Guide. Prepared just for my newborn session clients. 

The guide is to help prepare you have a smooth photo session so we can focus on capturing beautiful portraits. I send the guide over once we confirm your booking.  

Can Grandparents join in the session?

Absolutely you will want to choose the Forever Newborn Package. The session is for up to 6 poeple in the session any additional poeple will be a extra charge of $50 per person. Please note Fur Babies are counted as poeple.

How long does the session last?

My newborn sessions last between 3-5 hours depending on package chosen.

Sessions are never rushed. I prefer a relaxed envirment and when you lnow we have planty of time to allow for feeding breaks and lots of diaper changes and soothing time to make sure your little one is happy and content.

How long after the session can we expect To See the Proofing Gallery images?

About 14 Business after your Newborn session. You will recieve a Proofing gallery to go through your images and choose your favorites. The Proofing gallery is open for a week to choose.

Once you choose your final images and product. It takes about 2 to 3 weeks to receive final digital edits. If choosing to order printed products it takes about 3 to 8 weeks to receive.

do You offer lifestyle Newborn Pictures?

Yes if you would like a more Newborn lifestyle picture type session for the family posing part. We can definitley make it happen.

Newborns often have skin problem/ dry skin or spots/blemishes, jaundice. Will you be retouching these out? Or will this cost extra?

I will attend to any retouching needs for the images of your newborn after your proofing / ordering session.

In addition to any basic color enhancement and my signature look will be applied to all newborn pictures.

Please note composites and digital background work for specialized images may have an additional cost.

A Note On Health

If I am sick or even feel like i’m coming down with something, I will reschedule your newborn session until I'm better. I assist you to do the same, especially with older children or siblings who are sick and maybe touching items in my studio. Just as with safety, I will not risk the health of any newborn baby.
